In 2006, actor Stephen Fry received a letter from a girl struggling with depression. This was his response.

This is amazing.

I am having some pretty intense anxiety problems tonight.

I’m not sure why, other than the fact that I am a person with clinical depression who is currently unmedicated and not in treatment, who is prone to extended depressive episodes, especially at this time of the year. Which, you know, I know is a reason in and of itself, but sometimes it’s easy to forget.

Anyway. Sometimes it’s really hard, is all.

I can’t say I know what this feels like, at least not to the extent that many people do, but I have several dear friends who do experience it like this. This letter sums up what I would love to say to every one of my friends when they feel depressed, or unloved, or alone.
